This new category of classes is designed with the aim of taking individual, specialized topics and teaching them to advanced students on a rigorous level. There will be a workload outside of class, and regular attendance is expected. Unlike Conservatory
, Focus classes are supplementary training sessions designed to develop skills in specific areas, rather than holistically. Whenever possible, these classes are linked to annual OnStage
offerings. Students are encouraged to engage at this level for multiple years.

Unleash your creativity and quick thinking in our 9-week Improv Comedy class! Learn the art of spontaneous storytelling, hilarious character creation, and teamwork while building confidence on stage and having FUN!
Step into the spotlight in this dance class designed for beginning dancers who are still settling into their foundational dance technique. Students will integrate the basics into their bodies, learn essential dance vocabulary, and have opportunities to practice musical theatre choreography in a fun and supportive environment.
In this Saturday Musical Theatre Dance class, students will continue developing their dance technique while building confidence in musical theatre-style choreography. This course is designed for dancers with some prior experience who have a foundational understanding of dance and are ready to deepen their skills. Students will explore a range of styles and movement vocabulary, preparing them to perform with greater precision, expression, and stage presence. NOTE: Students must complete Intro to Musical Theatre Dance (Open Enrollment) or be approved for enrollment via an exemption audition.
In this hands-on course, students will explore the major technical aspects of theatre (scenic, lighting, sound, costumes, props, and stage management). Students will learn basic skills in design, drafting, mixing, crafting, and rendering. Students will also dive into the design process and gain practical experience working with a play. After the Winter Session culminates, SOTT Tech students will have the unique first opportunity to collaborate with peers as part of the Student Tech Team for OnStage 2026.
Tap classes develop rhythm and musicality. Students will learn basic techniques while exploring Broadway and rhythm styles. Learn how to make that "tap sound!"

Welcome to Acting Styles, where each session brings a new exploration of a different acting technique! In this dynamic course, high school students will dive deep into various theatrical traditions, practices, and performance styles. From classical Shakespeare text to avant-garde experimental theatre, each term will immerse students in a new and exciting world of acting. Material for each session of Acting Styles will complement the OnStage play selections for that year. NOTE: Students must complete at least one Foundations and one Core class in order to be eligible for Acting Styles.
Designed for middle and high school students, this class simulates the experience of a professional musical theatre dance audition. Each week, students will learn short combinations inspired by Broadway choreography, exploring a variety of styles and shows. Dancers will develop the skills needed to quickly pick up choreography, perform with confidence, and adapt to different musical theatre genres—all while building technique, versatility, and stage presence in a fun, fast-paced environment.
